It turns out that Yemi was referring to herself as a woman who is strong and independent, determined to succeed, and not afraid to express herself through music. She was paying homage to her own heroism – being her own biggest champion and advocate. And her album is intended to inspire other women. It reflects the strength and resilience of women worldwide.
This African Giant is also innovative, being one of the first artists to launch her own mobile app in 2015. And she is continuing to blaze a trail, with her new releases.
Critics are praising Yemi’s ability to effortlessly cross boundaries, with her blend of English, Igbo, Pidgin, Yoruba, French, Swahili and Portuguese lyrics resonating with fans from all walks of life.
In 2021, Yemi Alade was elated when she received the invitation to perform at the first Earthshot Prize ceremony at Alexandra Palace in London. The ceremony is planned to run annually until 2030.
