Tiwa Savage recently made headlines when she was conferred with an honorary doctorate degree from her alma mater, the University of Kent in recognition of her inspirational and international career in music on the 15th of July. She spoke about her struggles as a child and how they made her resilient. She also made reference to her adult tape scandal that erupted previously, while being grateful for being recognized for such honour.
Tiwa Savage is a popular Nigerian singer and songwriter who has achieved great musical success both in her native country Nigeria and internationally. Tiwa who relocated with her family to London, United Kingdom when she was 11 years old revealed that her journey to becoming a successful singer came with some challenges. She revealed in a video shared by her colleague, Bankulli Osha, that she had been bullied and even suspended from school several times.

“I was bullied at school severely when I moved to the UK, I ran away from home a few times, I was suspended a few times from school.” she also added “I’ve been globally ridiculed a couple of times, I’m not going to say what it is but it rhymes with ‘cape’. However, she went on to graduate from the University of Kent with an Accounting degree and worked at The Royal Bank of Scotland.
The Afrobeat music star and multi-award winner has been hailed as one of the most successful African artists of all time with her powerful voice and dynamic stage presence but unfortunately left many people surprised when her adult tape surfaced online.
