Team ROC, Jay-Z’s philanthropic arm, is offering support to Jermelle English Jr., who was wrongfully arrested while holding his one-year-old child at an Applebee’s in Wisconsin.
Despite police realizing they had apprehended the wrong person, English was still charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Team ROC has enlisted lawyer Alex Spiro Jr. to represent English in his pursuit of justice.
This is not the first time Jay-Z and Team ROC have provided legal assistance to victims of police brutality; In 2019, Daily Mail reported that they have supported individuals like Dravon Ames, his pregnant fiancée Iesha Harper, and their two daughters, as well as inmates at Mississippi’s notorious Parchman Farm prison. Team ROC’s goal is to seek justice and ensure accountability for the actions of the police officers involved in English’s case.
In collaboration with rapper Yo Gotti, Team ROC has also filed lawsuits against Mississippi’s notorious Parchman Farm prison for its inhumane treatment of inmates. This legal action resulted in notable improvements, including functional ambulances, modernized medical facilities, upgraded amenities, and recreational activities for inmates.
This initiative has garnered the attention of the U.S Justice Department, which subsequently investigated this prison. Team ROC philanthropic efforts have resulted in tangible improvements for victims of police brutality and those incarcerated under inhumane conditions.
