Precious Sibalo is the former waitress and flight attendant who rose to become a commercial airline pilot. Hailing from Zimbabwe, Precious’s journey was fraught with challenges and roadblocks, but her determination and passion for aviation never diminished. Today, her story is one that deserves to be celebrated – a story of grit, determination, and relentless pursuit of one’s dreams.
Precious’s journey began when she was still a young girl, on a school trip to the airport. Little did she know then that this experience would change the course of her life forever. The sight of the pilots in their uniforms, striding confidently across the tarmac, ignited a spark in her young heart. From that moment, she knew that she wanted to become a pilot. However, life had other plans for Precious, and she became a mother at a very young age – just 17 years old. The responsibilities of raising a child put her dreams on hold for a while.
To provide for her family, Precious moved to South Africa to work as a waitress and part-time model. Later, she moved to Dubai, where she continued to work as a waitress. It was during this time that she got the opportunity to work as a cabin crew member at Qatar Airways. It was a job that would take her one step closer to her dream. Precious worked hard and diligently, and after a few years, she was about to get promoted to senior cabin crew member. But she had other plans in mind.

In 2017, Precious decided to take a leap of faith and start her studies to become a pilot. It was a bold move, one that would require her to balance her job, her studies, and her family responsibilities. But Precious was determined, and she gave it her all. She was one of the few women in her class, but that didn’t faze her. She studied long hours, practiced her flight maneuvers tirelessly, and gave it her all.
In 2019, Precious received her commercial pilot’s license, and she became one of the first female pilot from Zimbabwe to fly for a commercial airline. She joined the ranks of a select few African women pilots who have broken through the glass ceiling and made a name for themselves in an industry that has traditionally been dominated by men. Today, Precious continues to fly for Qatar Airways, and she serves as an inspiring role model for young women who aspire to follow in her footsteps.
