Phoenix Renewables is Nigeria’s First Producer Of Electric Vehicles: Nigeria is now home to electric vehicles, courtesy of Mustapha Gajibo. The company was founded by Mustapha Gajibo, a university dropout who was inspired to create a more efficient and environmentally-friendly form of transportation. The Borno-based automobile engineer is Managing Director of Phoenix Renewables Limited.
Mustapha Gajibo’s electric vehicles which are being manufactured locally are said to be more affordable than their counterparts in other countries. Additionally, the company is working on setting up a network of charging stations across Nigeria. This will help to increase the accessibility of electric vehicles for Nigerian consumers. While electric vehicles have yet to gain widespread popularity in Nigeria, due to being more expensive, short of electricity and charging station, the introduction of more affordable and accessible options may help to change this. Phoenix Renewables is proving that electric vehicles will become a common sight on Nigeria roads.

Gajibo has been converting petrol mini-buses into electric vehicles in an effort to promote clean energy and curb pollution. The rising global oil prices and pollution make electric vehicles a worthwhile alternative in Nigeria. Gajibo modifies the cars by equipping them with solar panels and batteries. The 12-seater bus can cover up to 200 kilometres on one charge.
In a recent with Reuters, Gajibo stated “As I am speaking to you now at our workshop, we are building a 12-seater bus which can cover up to 200 kilometres on one charge,” Gajibo said. Solar power is an abundant resource in Nigeria and Gajibo’s buses are a step in the right direction towards harnessing this renewable resource. With his fleet of electric buses, Gajibo is leading the way towards a cleaner and brighter future for Nigeria.
Phoenix Renewables’ electric buses have been put to use in Maiduguri, and they have saved the residents N1,100,000. Gajibo’s electric buses have reduced the cost of transportation in the city, an average drop from N100 to N50. Phoenix Renewables’ buses are not only cheaper for riders, but they are also cheaper for the environment. The company’s mission is to provide an affordable and sustainable form of transportation for all. Phoenix Renewables is quickly making a name for itself as a provider of affordable, reliable transportation solutions.
