Mitchell Elegbe, the Founder and Group Managing Director of Interswitch Group, has recently been inducted into the Ernst and Young (EY) World Entrepreneur of the Year (WEOY) Hall of Fame. Elegbe is the first and only entrepreneur to have won in both the emerging and master categories in any region globally, and his induction into the hall of fame recognizes his exceptional entrepreneurial achievements.

The ceremony which took place in Monte Carlo, Monaco, in June saw him as the only Black and African global finalist inducted into the Hall of Fame. Elegbe expressed his honour and gratitude for being inducted into such a prestigious body renowned for its rich and vibrant legacy. “This recognition will further cement our commitment at Interswitch to never stop pushing the boundaries of innovation in a bid to foster an Africa where payments are a seamless part of everyday life.”

He founded Interswitch in 2002 to provide a solution to payment problems in Nigeria and has won several leadership awards, including the Harvard Business School Association (Nigeria) Leadership Award, CNBC/Forbes’ All African Business Leader Awards, and Financial Technology Africa Awards.

Mitchell Elegbe’s induction into the Ernst and Young World Entrepreneur of the Year Hall of Fame not only speaks to his personal entrepreneurial success, but it also highlights the growing importance of Africa’s innovation and economy on the global stage. As the first and only African inductee to the Hall of Fame, Elegbe serves as a role model for aspiring entrepreneurs to follow in his footsteps and continue to drive positive change in the African business landscape.
