A Ghanaian Mother And Daughter duo recently graduated from medical school in the U.S making them the first mother and daughter to graduate from medical school at the same time and at the same institution.
Mother Cynthia Kudji Sylvester MD and Daughter Jasmine Kudji, MD. Both shared on their Instagram accounts in May 2020 after graduating from medical school, which caught national media attention as the first mother and daughter to achieve this feat.
They have continued together on their career path as Kudji Sylvester joins the staff at LSU Health Lafayette as a family medicine resident and Kudji is one of 11 surgical residents at LSU Health New Orleans.
For Mum Kudji Sylvester, this dream has been 27 years in the making. She and her family moved from Ghana to Louisiana when she was two-years-old as she stated during an interview with USA Today.
Sylvester had highlighted how she became inspired to become a doctor after a previous visit to West Africa with her family. Narrating her encounter with a young woman who approached her and her mother asking them to help her sick child, which touched her deeply and marked the beginning of her carrier journey.
