    JéGO Pods, is a made-in-America self-driving Pods founded by a Nigerian immigrant, Frederick Akpoghene and have been approved by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The black-owned tech firm based in Miami, Florida, has begun manufacturing self-driving vehicles. The firm will start releasing the pods in late 2022 and will be used to mobilize healthcare services. JéGO Pods has built and partnered with several companies and startup accelerators, including Abovav Technologies, Oddio Tribe Holdings, and the JAXSTART program at the University of North Florida.

    The name “JéGO” is inspired by the African goddess of commerce, which reflects Akpoghene’s mission aside from critical care services, is to use technology to provide a solution to community businesses looking for alternatives to access more avenues for income opportunities. It is a unique product that represents the latest in autonomous vehicle technology. Although the JéGO Pod is still in the early stages of development, the company is confident that it will be able to provide a safe and efficient transportation option for both healthcare providers and patients.

    The JéGO Pod is a fully autonomous, electric vehicle that can seat up to six people. It is equipped with facial recognition technology, sensors, and a retractable wheelchair ramp that allow it to navigate its surroundings without the need for a human driver. The JéGO Pod is the first self-driving vehicle designed for use by people with disabilities. Frederick Akpoghene who is the CEO of JéGO Pods has over 15 years of experience in tech development and software engineering .

    He was born in Nigeria and immigrated to the United States with his family. After graduating from college, Frederick worked as an engineer for a aerospace company. He later founded JéGO Pods with the goal of improving transportation options for people with disabilities. The JéGO Pod is currently undergoing trials in Miami-Dade County. If the trial is successful, JéGO Pods plans to expand to other cities in the United States and eventually globally.
