Issa Rae first person ever to be granted the key to the city

Senegalese-American Issa Rae is an American actress who was born in Los Angeles, and her love for the city is evident in her work. The “Insecure” star, was recently awarded the key to the city, becoming the first person in its 114-year history to receive the honour. Issa’s impact goes beyond her critically-acclaimed HBO show; she’s also the founder of Issa Rae Productions, a multimedia production company that creates content featuring people of colour. Issa Rae obtained the Star Power Award during the 2017 Black Girls Rock! Awards, and named to Time magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people in 2018, and 2022 respectively. There’s no doubt that Issa Rae is making her hometown proud.

During the five-year run of Insecure on HBO, Rae highlighted various neighborhoods and restaurants, giving viewers a glimpse of the city beyond the usual Hollywood landmarks. She also served as executive producer on HBO Max’s Sweet Life: Los Angeles, a reality series that follows a group of young entrepreneurs as they navigate the challenges of starting a business in one of the most competitive cities in the world. Though Rae is based in New York, her love for Los Angeles remains strong. Report has it that she plans to move back to Los Angeles.
