Green Africa is a new airline founded by Babawande Afolabi, an American returnee in his 30s. He was an investment banker in the US before he returned to Nigeria to launch his airline. The airline started up airport operations soon after receiving its airplanes in Lagos. Green Africa is committed to providing affordable, safe, and reliable air transportation to the people of Nigeria and other parts of Africa.
Babawande Afolabi is a Nigerian-born businessman and entrepreneur who has made a significant impact in both his native Nigeria and his adopted home of the United States. He came to the United States to attend college, enrolling at Illinois Wesleyan University in 2006. While at IWU, Afolabi became the first-ever international student to serve as president of Student Senate.

He also founded Students without Borders, an organization that promotes cross-cultural understanding. In 2010, Babawande Afolabi graduated from Illinois Wesleyan in business and economics. After graduation, he returned to Nigeria and worked for a brief time in the oil industry. In 2012, he moved back to the United States to attend Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business, where he earned his MBA in 2014.
Today, Afolabi is the CEO and founder of Green Africa Airways Ltd., a Nigerian airline that was launched on August 9, 2021 when the company received its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). Under Afolabi’s leadership, Green Africa Airways is quickly becoming a well recognised airline in Africa. The airline plans to expand its operations to other African countries in the near future. Green Africa is a welcome addition to the aviation industry in Africa and in addition, create jobs.
