An African Giant Ghanaian rapper and entrepreneur Michael Owusu Addo known for his stage name Sarkodie, has so far received 80 awards in his music career including MTV Africa Music Awards, Best African Act at the 2013 Nigeria Entertainment Awards, BET Awards and Best West African Act at the 2013 Caribbean American and African Nations Music Awards.
Sarkodie, who is known to rap often in his native language Twi was among many who started quite early on in the music game but has overcome some of the challanges involved in the early stage in any artist career in getting that necessary recognition. He is currently one of the most celebrated musical icons to hail from Ghana.
He released his 2009 debut album Makye, with production from Killbeatz and Jayso as well as guest appearances from Kwaw Kese, J-Town, Sway and Paedae of R2Bees. However, in 2010, Sarkodie rose swiftly to fame after his first single song “Baby”, which also featured Mugeez of the duo R2Bees.
There are great acts who make less noise afterall and Sarkodie’s overall achievements reveals that he is a true star within. It is also interesting to learn that in 2015, Sarkodie was ranked the 19th most Influential Ghanaian by e.tv Ghana.
When the list richest musicians in Africa list was released in December 2018 Sarkodie was ranked 6th on Forbes lists of the Top 10 Richest African Artistes after Akon, Dj Black Coffee, Don Jazzy, Wizkid and Davido.
