Njideka Akunyili Crosby is a Nigerian female artist showing the world the “authentic African experience”. At age 16, she attended her first art class; this was her first step to greatness.
Today, she has to her name many awards like the 2015 Joyce Alexander Wein Artist Prize, the Prix Canson 2016 award, the 2015 Next Generation prize and none of them were related to medicine. She was also listed in Foreign Policy’s Leading 100 Global Thinkers of 2015.
Njideka Akunyili Crosby is a Nigerian artist who relocated to the United States at age 16. Her art works are collages drawn from Nigerian popular cultures and portrait fabrics, historical and political images. Crosby’s work aims to show the world the “authentic African experience” and to challenge the negative stereotypes of Africa often portrayed in the media.
