Dehlia Umunna is a lecturer at Harvard Law School and the Deputy Director of the Criminal Justice Institute. Her appointment made her the first Nigerian professor in Havard School of Law. She has been a lecturer at Harvard Law School since 2007 and has written extensively on criminal justice reform. In her most recent Journal article, titled “Rethinking the Neighbourhood Watch: How Lessons from the Nigerian Village Can Creatively Empower the Community to Assist Poor, Single Mothers in America,” Dehlia discusses the importance of community involvement in initiatives to help poor, single mothers.
The article which was published in the American University Journal of Gender, Social Policy and the Law, Dehlia draws upon her own experiences growing up in a Nigerian village to illustrate how community-based initiatives can be effective in providing assistance to those in need. Dehlia Umunna holds a Law degree from the George Washington University Law Center and a Masters in Public Administration (MC) from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. Dehlia has been a professor at Harvard since 2019, teaching courses on public international law and international human rights law.
