Moe Hunter, a 38-year-old man from Hereford, Birmingham, UK, woke from a coma in 2004 with artistic skills that he had never possessed before. He was diagnosed with a rare form of bacterial meningitis and tuberculosis in his brain, which caused him to spend more than a month in a coma as reported by Daily Mail in November 2022.

He spent over a month in a coma, during which his heart even stopped beating before he underwent life-saving surgery, installing a shunt to drain fluid from his brain at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Remarkably, after waking up, he discovered that he had a newfound creative flair and an inexplicable talent for drawing, painting, and model building, despite being “rubbish” at art in school.

Previously, Mr Hunter had no interest in crafts and had no notable creative abilities. However, he used his newfound talent to embark on a career as a self-employed carpenter and began building intricate life-size model replicas from the world of TV and film. His artwork has since been sold, and Mr Hunter has displayed his amazing creations at Comic-Con events across the country.

Despite his remarkable transformation, Mr Hunter’s family and friends are still shocked by his artistic abilities, and he continues to be grateful for his second chance at life. He said, “I just feel incredibly lucky but also shocked as I really don’t know where this came from.” Hunter enjoys building and creating art from movies, especially Star Wars, Marvel movies, and video games, using MDF and recycled materials. His home in Hereford is now adorned with paintings, illustrations, and models, including a life-size R2-D2, Chappie, and an AT-ST from Star Wars.

He continues his passion for creating, and recently he received screenplays from collaborators on Netflix to help him advance his career. Moe Hunter’s case is a mysterious and fascinating one that has left medical professionals puzzled. It raises questions about the possible effects of comas on the human brain and the untapped potential that may exist within every individual.
