    The Black Panther star Angela Bassett was in her element. She had just been awarded an honorary doctorate from Old Dominion University yesterday May 6th, 2022, and the esteemed institution’s alumni were out in full force to show their support.

    Angela Bassett who is the highest-paid Black female actress for a TV Drama was thrilled to receive her 6th honorary doctorate from Old Dominion University on Friday having been honored three times by her alma mater, Yale University, and other honorary doctorates from Morehouse College in Atlanta, and also American Film Institute (AFI). Bassett is glad for her accomplishments but this latest honor felt especially significant.

    The award-winning actress who played the Queen mother in Black Panther began her film career in the 1980s, and has starred in films such as Malcolm X, What’s Love Got to Do with It, and The Hurricane. Angela is also known for her roles in the television series ER and American Horror Story.

    African Giant Dr. Bassett has remained a role model for Black people and for women in Hollywood, setting the bar high with her incredible talent and achievements. She is widely respected for her work both on-screen and off.

    “Probably a big part of my career is offers and opportunities that come to me, as opposed to me consciously seeking them out – ‘I want to work with this person,’ you know. I guess I’m not as proactive as that.” Bassett stated in an interview with The Guardian UK September 2021.
