Tonye Solomon, a young Nigerian from Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, sets a new Guinness World Record for the most steps climbed on a ladder while balancing a football on his head. The feat was accomplished on August 10th after two months of intense training. According to the Guinness World Records website, Mr Solomon climbed 150 steps while balancing the soccer ball on his head, setting a new world record.

The Guinness World Records website said, “Tonye attempted this record to challenge himself and to inspire others to do great things. He spent two months training for the attempt until he was confident he could achieve the record”. The Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, took to Twitter to congratulate Tonye Solomon. He said, “Such a great feat is inspiring, and it’s worth celebrating. We are proud of you Champ!”.

Many Nigerians have been making attempts at setting or breaking world records in different areas of life, inspired by chef Hilda Baci’s new world record for the longest cooking marathon. The Africa Giant website is celebrating Tonye Solomon’s achievement because his feat shows the world that Nigerians are not just talented in sports, but also possess exceptional abilities to make headlines in global events.

Tonye Solomon’s achievement adds to the growing lists of Nigerians setting new Guinness World Records. The number of applications submitted for Guinness World Records by Nigerians indicates the country’s youthful energy and a burning desire for excellence.

However, not all achievers receive equal recognition and celebration. Vincent Okezie, a secondary school student who set four Guinness World Records in 2022, expressed disappointment that his achievements were not celebrated in the same way as Hilda Baci’s world record, he told Premium Times. This underscores the need to celebrate achievers irrespective of their age or gender, and to allocate equal attention to their achievements.

The Africa Giant website is dedicated to celebrating these individuals, amplifying their stories, and spurring interest in the pursuit of new records. Tonye Solomon’s Guinness World Record is just the latest of these achievements, emphasizing the nation’s commitment to reaching new heights and inspiring others to do the same.
