    Growing up in a military family, you might think that Amari had a stable childhood. However, when his father left his mother, he was forced to face financial instability and the resulting hardships that came with it. Despite the chaotic and unpredictable nature of his upbringing, Amari never lost sight of his goals. He worked tirelessly to support his family and pursue his education, even commuting over four hours a day via public transportation to maintain continuity at his high school.

    Eventually, Amari was accepted to college. But like many young people, he was unable to afford the costs and had to make a difficult decision. Instead of giving up on his dreams, he found work as a cable company technician and quickly rose through the ranks. Amari discovered that he had a natural talent for establishing relationships and crafting mutually beneficial business deals. With just $300 and a 1990 Ford Ranger, he founded his own telecommunications company, which grew to almost 200 trucks and five locations across the US.

    However, Amari realized that there was a larger opportunity available in the tech industry. He recognized that it was possible to connect underserved entrepreneurs with major corporations and help break down barriers and create opportunities for diverse truckers. In 2015, he launched Sudu, a multi-million dollar trucking company that is helping to revolutionize the industry.

    One of the challenges Amari faced in building Sudu was navigating an incredibly fragmented and inefficient industry. Most trucking companies had six or fewer trucks in their fleet, making it extremely difficult for smaller companies to gain access to quality freight opportunities. They often went through freight brokers, who were focused solely on maximizing margins and offering no value-add back to the trucker or shipper. Amari saw this as a $700 billion industry problem that needed a better solution.

    With Sudu, Amari harnessed diverse trucking companies and layered technology on top to help corporations with Supplier Diversity initiatives meet their goals while also providing better pricing due to leveraging tech instead of human capital. Sudu enables the underserved market to be in a better position to make additional revenue without having to do anything different.
