    Amanda Azubuike Honored With The Rank Of Brigadier General Of The US Army, Deputy Commanding General US Army

    Amanda Azubuike was decorated with the prestigious rank of Brigadier General of the United States Army in November 2022. Born in London, United Kingdom, to Nigerian parents, Azubuike’s journey started in 1994 when she joined the US Army and became an aviator after passing the Army Aviation Officer Basic Course.

    With more than 30 years of military leadership experience and over 15 years of communications expertise, Azubuike has an impressive background in all aspects of public affairs. She has led numerous teams and demonstrated excellence in crisis communications, digital campaigns, media relations, global affairs, and enhancing internal and external stakeholder relations.

    As an Army aviator, Azubuike’s aviation career started in the UH-1H Huey helicopter and transitioned to the RC-12D/H Guardrail (fixed wing). Her military service took her from the Sinai to Korea, where she conducted a range of missions in both airframes, including lift and transport in support of observer controllers from the State Department. Additionally, her experience included leading aircraft mechanics and pilots, training, planning, mission validation/certification, logistics, and maintenance operations in support of assigned units.

    Over the years, Amanda Azubuike has held various key positions, including the Third Army/US Army Central Public Affairs Officer at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, where she coordinated daily operations and provided analysis of the Arab print and electronic media output. She also made Director, Public Affairs US Forces Afghanistan, where she provided public affairs advice and strategic communications direction and support to senior leadership on the USFOR-A staff. Moreover, Amanda Azubuike held the position of Chief of Public Affairs, United States Southern Command, Miami/Fort Lauderdale Area.

    Recently, Azubuike was appointed Chief of Staff/Senior Military Advisor to the Principal Deputy ATSD(PA) at the Office of the Secretary of Defense in Washington, District of Columbia, United States, between June 2021 – June 2022. In July 2022, she became Deputy Commanding General US Army, a position she holds till date.

    Azubuike’s leadership, expertise, and dedication to service have earned her numerous accolades, including a Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and Air Medal. As a senior military leader and public affairs professional, Amanda Azubuike is an inspiration to many, particularly women aiming to carve a similar path in the military.
