Born in the bustling city of Lagos, Nigeria, Hakeem Kae-Kazim always knew that he wanted to pursue a career in acting. So, he packed his bags and headed to the UK to make his dreams a reality. With determination and talent, he made that dream a reality, paving his way from London to Hollywood. His exceptional performances have garnered critical acclaim and international recognition.
Kae-Kazim’s first big break came with his role as Georges Rutaganda in the Oscar-nominated film, ‘Hotel Rwanda’. His portrayal of the character earned him a nomination for the Best Supporting Actor award at the Black Movie Awards. This opened doors for Kae-Kazim, and he soon relocated to Los Angeles, where he booked the role of Captain Jocard in the hit movie, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.’
But the talented actor is not just a one-trick pony. Kae-Kazim has made waves in his home country with his performance in Nigeria’s first musical film, ‘Inale’. He then broke into the Nigerian entertainment scene with his roles in movies such as ‘Last Flight to Abuja’ and ‘Half of a Yellow Sun. His voice is also featured in various video games such as ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3,’ ‘Final Fantasy XIV,’ and ‘Halo: Reach’, to name a few.
In addition to his film and video game work, Kae-Kazim has made his presence felt on the small screen, starring in the 2018 BBC fantasy series ‘Troy: Fall of a City’ as Zeus, the king of the Olympians. He followed it up with a recurring role in season 2 of Fox series ‘Deep State’. The remarkable actor has also appeared in the BBC America adaptation of Terry Pratchett’s ‘The Watch’ and the Sky One series ‘Intergalactic.’
His most recent accolade came with his performance in the 2020 Netflix film ‘Riding with Sugar,’ for which he won the South African Film & Television Award (SAFTA) for Best Supporting Actor in a Feature Film. The actor has since gone on to appear in several films, including ‘Black Beauty’, ‘The Shuroo Process’, and ‘Godzilla vs. Kong.’ In 2022, he starred in the Nigerian epic fantasy film ‘Aníkúlápó’ as Majordome and was cast in the Starz adaptation of ‘Dangerous Liaisons.’
Kae-Kazim is set to make his directorial debut with the upcoming feature film, ‘It’s the Blackness.’ The film is set in South London, where he grew up, and promises to be a riveting watch. With his impressive acting range and his Nigerian roots, Kae-Kazim has become a force to be reckoned with both in Hollywood and Nollywood.
