Control was hardly an album that needed an apology to reignite its success. The record was Janet Jackson’s masterpiece, a fierce declaration of independence that introduced the world to one of pop’s most visionary artists. Control wasn’t just a commercial juggernaut, spawning hit after hit and selling over six million copies in the US alone. It was also a critical favorite, praised for its innovative production and Jackson’s fearless performance.

Janet Jackson is a living legend in the music industry, and her contributions to pushing boundaries is astounding. Janet is best known as the tenth and youngest child of the Jackson family, an American singer-songwriter, actress, and dancer noted for her innovative and socially conscious shows. In 1991 she made history through signing one of the two record-breaking multimillion-dollar contracts with Virgin Records, setting a new standard for high-paid artists in the business.

She inspired MTV to evolve further to promote her sound along with her incredible choreography which enabled a sort of cultural transformation as she broke gender and racial barriers. Unfortunately Janet suffered from backlash over a 2004 Super Bowl controversy leading to an industry blacklisting under CBS Corp’s CEO Les Moonvez. Janet has continued to reclaim her throne in spite of the reduced airplay and promotion that followed, demonstrating the pure resilience Janet possess.

In the 35 years since its release, Control has only grown in stature, cementing Jackson’s place as one of the greatest pop stars of all time. Recently, it reached it hit the top no 1. Timberlake posted a public apology to both Jackson and Britney Spears a week after documentary “Framing Britney Spears” was released on Hulu leading fans to criticize Timberlake’s past behavior. So while Justin Timberlake’s apology may have helped push the album back to number one on the charts, Control is a timeless classic and it again soared to the top in 2021.
