    Shalanda Young first Black woman to lead White House budget office

    Shalanda Young makes history after becoming the first Black woman to lead the White House Office of Management and Budget. Young is determined to make a positive impact on the country knowing there are many challenges ahead but seems up for the challenge.

    As a result of her hard work and dedication, after being able to make significant progress in her first year as acting director of the OMB after Neera Tanden withdrew her nomination for the permanent post in March of last year.

    Shalanda Young had been working her way up through the ranks of government for years, and to be officially made the directorship of the Office of Management and Budget is truly remarkable.

    It is an exciting position for Young as she takes on this new challenge. The job also comes with scrutiny and challenges but she appears determined to succeed.

    The Senate voted unanimously to confirm Shalanda as director, and she wasted no time getting to work. She quickly established herself as a leader, and under her direction, the Office of Management and Budget will begin to make real progress.

    The Senate approved Ms. Young with a vote of 61 to 36, nearly a year after Ms. Young was confirmed as deputy budget director and began serving as the acting head of the agency.

    “It shouldn’t have taken this long to confirm someone as obviously qualified as Shalanda Young,” said Senator Chuck Schumer, Democrat of New York and the majority leader, adding, “She’s proven capable of working with Republicans and Democrats alike.”

    Shalanda Young had worked hard for 14 years to get to this point, it shows her determination to make a difference. She started her career as a staffer for the United States House Committee on Appropriations and quickly rose through the ranks. In February 2017, she was named staff director of the committee, a position in which she served until her nomination for deputy director of OMB in 2021.

    Throughout her career, Shalanda is known for her professionalism and dedication to her work. Having gathered sufficient experience in the budget process and possessing the skills to effectively manage a team, Young has become well respected for her intelligence and dedication.
