Arthur Zang was born in Yaounde, Cameroon, to a family of doctors. Arthur showed an early interest in technology and taught himself how to build computers. When he was just eighteen years old, Arthur invented Africa’s first computer tablet that could diagnose people with heart disease.
The African Giant never wanted to become a doctor, but he had a passion for technology. So when he learned that heart disease was the leading cause of death in Africa, he decided to do something about it. The tablet not only diagnoses patients but also records their medical history so that doctors can better treat them in the future.
Arthur Zang was just your average kid, growing up in Cameroon. Like many children his age, he loved to play and explore. But Arthur also had a passion for technology and invention. He loved tinkering with gadgets and finding new ways to solve problems.
One day, Arthur came up with an idea that would change his life – and the lives of millions of people around the world. He invented the Cardio-Pad, a revolutionary new device that allows doctors to diagnose heart problems remotely, without having to perform expensive and invasive tests.

The Cardio-Pad quickly gained acclaim all over the world, and Arthur was hailed as a genius inventor. He won awards and accolades from some of the most prestigious institutions in the world.
Arthur Zang’s Cardio-Pad has put him at the forefront of young African innovators. The Cardio-Pad allows users to monitor their heart rate, blood pressure and other health metrics, and has won Arthur plaudits and prizes in his home country and as far away as the United States. Forbes magazine described him as “an example of African innovation at its finest”.
The Royal Academy of Engineering in London was so impressed with Arthur’s invention that they honoured him with a prestigious award, the Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation, an amount of £25,000 ($37,000) prize in 2016.
The Cardio-Pad went on sale in January 2016, with the potential to enable heart examinations across Cameroon, a sprawling country of 22 million citizens and only 50 cardiologists, almost all based in the two main cities.
When African Giant Zang learned that heart disease was the leading cause of death in his country, he decided to do something about it. He consulted a cardiologist at a hospital in Yaoundé and eventually came up with the new and brilliant idea. With the help of the Cardio-Pad, many people in Africa who would have otherwise gone undiagnosed can receive life-saving treatment.
