Kelvin Doe, a young African inventor, has made a name for himself in the tech world by using his incredible skills to build various devices out of garbage. At just 13 years old, he created transmitters, generators, and batteries using items that he found around his neighborhood in Sierra Leone.
The African Giant is one of the most respected young African inventors who taught himself engineering at a tender age. He quickly realized that he had a talent for repairing and building gadgets and began to explore his interests further. However, the lack of resources and funding in his community proved to be a significant obstacle for him.
Undeterred, Doe found a solution by using the materials that he could find around his neighbourhood. He would scavenge through dumpsters and trash piles to collect items that he could repurpose for his projects. With a little bit of ingenuity and a lot of hard work, he managed to build a functioning radio transmitter with a range of several miles. This achievement caught the attention of his community, and his reputation as a young inventor began to grow.
Doe’s skills eventually earned him an invitation to the United States where he participated as the youngest person in the “Visiting Practitioner’s Program” at MIT. This experience exposed him to new technologies and ideas that he was able to bring back to Sierra Leone and apply to his inventions. He was also invited to speak at TEDxTeen and lecture at Harvard College.
His most significant achievement is his $100,000 solar project pact with Canadian High-Speed Service Provider Sierra WiFi in 2013. The project aims to provide access to reliable and affordable electricity to remote communities in Sierra Leone. With his invaluable knowledge and talent, the young talent is working to help bridge the technology gap in his country by making creative use of the resources available to him. “I will like to promote my innovative passion which is to become an inventor of many things that will make Sierra Leone proud,” he stated.
