Dave Chapelle, one of America’s top comedians, has announced plans to move to Ghana and open a comedy club and also build rental properties. His decision was influenced by Stevie Wonder’s recent pronouncement to relocate to Ghana.

In an interview, Chapelle said that he wanted to be “valued and respected” and moving to Africa will earn him one. Ghana is known for its welcoming attitude towards foreigners, and Chapelle is optimistic that he will be able to find success in his new venture.

Dave Chapelle is just the latest in a long line of African American celebrities who have been drawn to Ghana’s vibrant culture. With its beautiful beaches and friendly people, Ghana is becoming an increasingly popular destination for those looking for a place to call home or reconnect with their African roots.

In 2006, the African American stand-up comedian, actor, writer and producer Dave was called the “comic genius of America” by Esquire and, in 2013, “the best” by Michael Depland from Billboard.

The comedy icon who was also ranked No. 9 in Rolling Stone “50 Best Stand Up Comics of All Time in 2017, has revealed that his plan to move to Ghana was influenced by Stevie Wonder’s recent pronouncement to relocate to Ghana during his chat with the famous model Naomi Campbell for her podcast “No Filter With Naomi”.

Dave wants the opportunity to set a legacy that will have a positive impact on Africa as he shares with model Naomi:

“I start thinking about a larger picture than just like a show or this, that, or the other,” While adding“I’m in that phase of my career, even though I’m still kind of a young guy, of thinking about a legacy”.

“All these years later, I still love doing [comedy] but I’d like it to be a little more meaningful than just writing a joke and taking it to market. I want to build something that will last beyond me”.

During the podcast, he stated how his friend, the legendary musician, one of the most successful songwriters and musicians Stevie Wonder recently inspired him to consider his root, Africa.

“Stevie Wonder said in the press recently that he wanted to move to Ghana” while adding “I’m moving to Ghana so that I can be valued and respected more”. Dave confirmed that since Stevie Wonder made his remarks, he became motivated “To see him decide to make that move, I wanted to go”.

He added that he also hopes to build rental properties in Ghana “at least rent something for the foreseeable future,” and open a comedy club.

Dave and Naomi also had other inspirational conversations together.
