News coming from the long-awaited election into the position of the Director-General World Trade Organisation is that Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala has been elected as the DG of WTO although the process has not been completed. She was Nigeria’s nominee for the position and has emerged winner after a tough and competitive battle. Dr. Okonjo Iweala elected the Director-General of World Trade Organisation as she polled 104 votes out of the 164 member counties that participated to beat the runnerup from Soth Korea.
As it stands, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala has set numerous records to have been the first African and a woman to be chosen to occupied that office.
