In honor of the Nigerian’s 60th independence, the Nigerian film, “Eyimofe” aired live at the BFI London Film Festival, in London, United Kingdom, on the 11th of October 2020. This film was first premiered at the 70th Berlin International Film Festival in February, and it will premiere again in the United States at the AFI Fest on October 20.
Eyimofe is already turning heads with its suspenseful trailer, revving up global interest ahead of it’s big premier in London. Produced by GDN Studios and directed by the talented twin brothers Arie and Chuko Esiri, Eyimofe tells the story of two different heroes searching for a better life. It’s an over 114 minute film packed with stars like Akuwudike, Temi Ami-Williams, Cynthia Ebijie, Sadiq Daba and more who can be seen in its 48 stunning locations from Nigeria. As excitement continues to stir around Eyimofe, one question remains; will Mofe and Rosa find their happy ending? We can only wait to see what Eyimofe has for us!
The characters in Eyimofe faced major challenges – from a lack of money, status and influence due to socio-economic factors to issues relating to gender, skin colour, and family structure. This is why passports, photos and visas were seen so often in the film; they were the ticket out of the country for the disadvantaged protagonists. Contrary to the odds stacked against them in Eyimofe, its selection as the official movie of Vancouver International Film Festival earlier this year proved that it was truly a triumph worth travelling for!
