Torin Pocock, an English actor who was cast on ‘Star Wars’ starred in a recent Nollywood movie titled, ‘Kpali’. He made his acting debut in the Nigerian film industry along with movie stars like Nkem Owoh, Ini Dima-Okojie and Gloria Anozie Young, among others
Pocock played the role of Jake Hunters, a friend of Amaka Kalayor. News outlets revealed that the English actor first came to Nigeria in June 2017 to shoot a few scenes as the lead character in the film.
The actor displayed a high level of elation over the movie, which was released in the cinemas on the 20th of December 2019.
In a post he shared on his Instagram page in December, he announced the date of release of the film and acknowledged the director and producer. He also thanked his fellow cast members who took the time to show him around Lagos.
“Kpali” is a comedy-drama that tells the story of Amaka Kalayor – played by Ini Dima-Okojie, a Nigerian professional working in an investment bank in London; her company is trimming down its workforce and with her work permit due for renewal she may be caught in the line of fire.
She has to decide what to do if she gets the boot; whether to do all she can to stay in the UK or face heading back to Nigeria, despite all the horror stories she has heard from family and friends back home.
Given the known commercial success of comedies in Nigerian cinema, the “Kpali” movie is following suit.
Torin Pocock starred in ‘Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens’ where he played the part of a Resistance member. He was also cast as a Blockade Runner Soldier in ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.’
Directed by Ladipo Johnson and produced by Ema, ‘Kpali’ features talented actors like Linda Ejiofor Sulaiman, Uzor Arukwe, Seyi Law and Kunle Remi.
