The 2014 Nigerian drama film “Iyore” is a classical, romantic thriller set in the Benin Kingdom, Nigeria directed by Frank Rajah Arase and written by Edwin Wiffey

If you’re looking for a movie with lots of twists and turns, then Iyore (The Return) or better still “Reincarnation” is the movie. It features some of Nollywood’s finest: Rita Dominic, Joseph Benjamin, Okawa Shaznay, Paul Obazele, Bukky Wright and Yemi Blaq

It’s no secret that Nollywood movies can be a little bit…predictable. But “Iyore” takes things to a whole new level. The plot is basically this: A twisted tale of love transcending from one lifetime to another and growing stronger each time it is reenacted. It tells the story of Osarugue (Rita Dominic) a married Secondary school English teacher in the 80’s who is in love with a crown prince of Benin Kingdom Azuwa (Joseph Benjamin) but it is forbidden for she already belongs to another man Osas (Yemi Blaq).

The Prince Azuwa is to be married to Ajoke (Okawa Shaznay) a Yoruba Princess who might be a Reincarnation of Amenze on of the scared Virgins of the ancient Benin Kingdom who had an affair with Edosa the warrior and had to elope with when rather than be buried alive with the dying king. But the aspect of being buried next to the king sounds like fiction. Talk about drama!

People often say that truth is stranger than fiction, and this movie proves it. It’s hard to believe that something like this could actually happen in real life, but that’s what makes it so interesting. You never know what’s going to happen next in “Iyore”.

The movie, “Iyore,” is all about love and betrayal. When beautiful Iyore falls for the dashing Prince Azuwa, she has no idea that changing culture is not so simple. But what happens when the King finds out, talk more when her husband? Or should she just move on? Unfortunately for Iyore, her decision may end up costing her dearly.
